Yin Yoga: An Indepth Exploration for dedicated practitioners and teachers
Deepening our understanding of the purpose, method and effects of this contmeplative practice in the body, heart and mind. Wednesday will be dedicated to the physical and energetic details, deepening our understanding of our vital energy (Prana or Qi), while understanding how the Yin practice affects the meridian system and specific organs to enhance overall harmony of being. Thursday we will explore the emotional component, learning how the health of our organ system is intimately connected with balancing our emotional body. Friday we will look into the effect of this practice on calming and freeing the mind using Buddhist mindfulness meditation.
Each class will be a combination of theory and practice, with time for questions. This intensive is suitable for those who want to teach this practice as well as those who are simply interested in deepening their understanding of Yin Yoga.
Since the intention of this intensive is centered around understanding Yin Yoga, there will only be a short Yang, (flow) sequence of Surya Namaskar, allowing us to refresh our vitality in order to continue our studies.
Please come with a basic understanding of the practice by having read Yin Yoga by Paul Grilley, listened to Sarah's CD Yin Yoga and viewed Sarah's DVD, Yoga, Yin and Vinyasa.
Yang Yoga: A Two Day Intensive for Intermediate Students and Teachers
Join Sarah to explore and refine your understanding of how to bring these yogic shapes alive within you. Sarah will focus on the combination of inner (breath and energy channels) and outer (cohesion within the bones and muscles) alignment, as well as the use of touch to assist yoga practitioners in finding an integral aliveness within yoga postures. The main emphasis will be to discover how to use hands-on adjustments to bring a greater awareness to the stable part of the pose, allowing the rest of the body to discover where there may be enhanced capacity for movement. This intensive will benefit teachers who work hands-on with others, as well as anyone interested in learning a greater acuity of attention in the yoga postures.
Please bring a pad and pen to write down the adjustments for future reference.

Sarah Powers
Sarah Powers began teaching in 1987. She interweaves the insights and practices of Yoga and Buddhism into an integral practice to enliven the body, heart and mind. Her yoga style blends both a Yin sequence of long held poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems, combined with a flow or Yang practice, influenced by Viniyoga, Ashtanga, and Iyengar teachers and teachings. Sarah feels that enlivening the physical and pranic bodies as well as opening to our psychological obstacles is paramount for preparing one to deepen and nourish insights into one's essential nature--a natural state of awareness. She draws from her studies in Transpersonal Psychology, as well as her in-depth training in the Vipassana, Tantric and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism. She teaches trainings and silent retreats with her husband Ty. They live with their teen-age daughter Imani Jade in Marin, California. For more on her please go to
