Yin Yoga classes
In Yin practice we cultivate openness of the hips and spine. Sitting in chairs compresses the spine and diminishes core mobility, resulting in back pain, stiffness and qi (life energy) stagnation. Yin Yoga reverses this process. The ligaments of the axis of our body (hips and spine) are most effectively healed and trained using leverage and therapeutic traction over an extended time. Using slow, deep stretches gently adapted to each individual¹s unique anatomy, we will open and stimulate core connective tissue, increasing fluidity, calming the mind and encouraging a sense of joy
and well being. A Yin approach leads us to the humble discovery of what is
so. Yin energy is peaceful and content, wanting nothing. Our culture of active, busy and often stressful Yang-style living necessitates the cultivation of Yin practices. When we sink into these shapes together a palpable depth appears in the room, a deep well of spaciousness that nourishes us all. Qi/Prana washes through us at the deepest energetic level, cultivating a calm, centered vitality.
YIN WORKSHOP
In this workshop we will explore the anatomical and philosophical foundations of Yin Yoga as well as sink deeply into the Yin experience. In a Yin practice we unwind tension and rehabilitate our core joints (hips and lumbar spine,) increasing mobility and calming the mind. Working with a skeleton and unique photographs of human bones we'll examine the wide variations of anatomical structure and how those differences effect our yoga practice.. We will discuss the concepts of tension/compression, muscle tissue/connective tissue, axis/extremities, joint space closure and Qi/Prana flow. Understanding these principles helps free us from seeing postures as static ideals and allows our practice to flow from our unique bodies and energies in a spirit of contentment and gratitude.
